NBC Sued Over Conan’s Clay Aiken Joke

by Jyle on December 18th, 2007

Denis James sues Conan O'Brien Conan O’Brien is responsible for a lawsuit to TV network NBC/Universal over a joke he made about American Idol’s Clay Aiken.

The plaintif isn’y Clay but rather bodybuilder Dennis "The Menace" James, winner of the 2004 Mr. Olympia Competition. According to James…

O’Brien "showed a Christmas Card which featured the face of 2003 American Idol runner-up, Clay Aiken, smiling on the right side of the card, and the phrase ‘All I want this year is a White Christmas’ on a fold out flap on the left side of the card. O’Brien then opened the left side of the card to reveal the punch line, ‘…And a Black Body Builder,’ above which was a photograph of Plaintiff posing at the 2004 IFBB Mr. Olympia Competition."

Funny stuff… The thing of it is, I thought that late night talk shows were in some way exempt from being sued over jokes. I mean if everyone who got burned by Letterman, Leno, SNL, or Conan sued there would be a whole bunch of cash pouring out. If James wins the lawsuit, that could open the door to others considering filing a complaint, which could mean the end of TV jokes.

James, be a big boy and stop your whining.

That’s really retarded! Take a joke for god’s sake. All he wants is money…

Very good for James. Today Talk show host don’t care about ruining someone’s name or reputation. I hope he drains him dry. Maybe, this will stop all the supposed to be funny jokes. I guess, the joke on Conan. Let’s see him laugh at this.
